
After shouting at the politician being interviewed on the morning news, I reminded myself he couldn’t hear me. And even if he did, he’d care nothing for my opinion. No matter what side of the aisle is yours, there’s plenty to disturb one’s inner peace. And worse than that, it leads to division and even hate. Instead, Christ calls us to love others and leave judgement to him.
I can’t stop today’s hateful divisions, but I can stop fury from destroying my soul. I recalled Paul’s letter to the Philippians where he wrote: “Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praise-worthy—think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8 NIV)
So I ditched the continuous news-feed morass I’d fallen into. It was time for an educational, uplifting, and noble brain diet. I decided to expose myself to content that would lead me down spiritually and physically healthy paths. Humor, joy, Biblical truths, or the history of our better angels at work would replace current affairs and memoirs. No more authors with an ax to grind!
I reminded myself that God is in charge.

A Matter of Life and Death

I don’t buy their claim that they have good intentions and are working to get these bugs out of their system. Also, AI now will provide erotica. That’s right, destroy body and soul. Just what our sin-sick society needs!
All this makes me more determined to monitor (mind) what I put into my mind and fill my hours with what Paul described as noble and admirable. God has given me agency to choose.

It can be so addictive listening to these pundits carrying on about what the “other side” is doing now. In addition, this administration bombards us with new changes constantly, all of which promote fear, especially of the future. I’m currently distracting myself with really good novels! Prayer is useful as well.

Our present president won by a landslide. It appears we’re hearing most of the ‘news’ coming from the opposing side. I wish they’d go back to reporting the news basics (who, what, where, when and how) rather than offer their “opinion pieces.”
