If you’ve been reading my blogs, I’ve stayed away from all things political because I believe both conservatives and liberals, and everyone in between, have much to offer America. And I still do.
But Trump’s recent executive order renaming Lake ONTARIO Lake America demolished my reticence. I grew up on the shores of Lake ONTARIO, so this strikes home and, frankly, infuriates me.
This magnificent body of fresh water that lies between America and Canada will remain Lake ONTARIO despite the hubris that drove our president to think he had the authority, historical relevance, or international cooperation to change its name.
His move is a perfect way to make him irrelevant, because the world will continue to call this body of water Lake Ontario, and ignore his latest ill-conceived notion.

Symbols and items of faith (like Bibles, rosaries, crosses, and Torahs) carry reverence and meaning that relate to the core of a people’s faith. In a civilized society, people set them aside and respect them.
I was driving along a major thoroughfare when I noticed a billboard which showed President Trump extending a Bible. To my credit, I kept my car on the road.
Many of my Christian friends wear crosses. Knowing them as I do, I know it’s their way of proclaiming their allegiance to Christ and a way to share their deeply held faith.
And it’s good that we’re free to express our deeply held beliefs with such items. But lately l’ve seen more crosses around the necks of politicians than ever before. Now that’s fine if people wear this blessed symbol to proclaim their discipleship to Jesus, BUT if crosses and billboards are used to promote one’s political agenda, platform, or themselves, I think that’s sacrilegious.
Only each person knows his/her motivation. If one wears and shares their items of faith to glorify God, “God bless you” (in the Northern sense—a true blessing). If doing so is to promote yourself or your agenda, “God bless you” (in the Southern sense—you better run…fast).
I’ve decided that silence can promote stupidity and foster evil. Silent no more.
I too have spent my entire life living on the shores of Lake Ontario enjoying the beauty of magnificent sun sets in the summer and white caps yes white caps in the winter a peaceful beautiful place

Good! It’s great that you are becoming vocal! I’ve been vocal enough that I’ve told my kids that I expect the paddy wagon to come for me! How sad that I fear my voice will be stifled due to undermining free speech!

I remember when Johnson renamed Cape Canaveral “Cape Kennedy”.
Ten years later, the name reverted to Cape Canaveral.
Perhaps, given a little time and common sense, Lake Ontario will once again roll off the tongues of Canadians and Americans alike.
